Polo on the Beach 2015 – the best yet
There was pony power, welly wanging, gin quaffing, prize pooches and polo galore at this year’s GWR Polo on the Beach at Watergate Bay. If you missed it, you missed out!
Watergate Bay was transformed into a mini festival over the weekend of Friday 26 to Sunday 28 June for the ninth Polo on the Beach, attracting record crowds for a three day celebration of all things polo – and more.
This year saw the event span three days with three polo matches, equine stunt displays and a sell-out beach party. As always, polo featured large on the event timetable and starred some of Britain’s best players.
Saturday saw the busiest day in the event’s history as 4,000 people made the most of the blue skies and free activities. The much anticipated Devil’s Horsemen returned to the Bay to wow the crowds with their Cossak stunt show, before the big crowd-puller at 6pm – the main Watergate Bay trophy match between team Joules and Beach Retreats. Team Joules managed to win with the narrowest of victories in a nail-biting match.
Elsewhere on the sand families enjoyed fairground-games, sand sculpting, a giant colouring mural, welly-wanging with Joules in aid of The Gurkha Welfare Trust, slacklining, kid’s crafts, the LandRover driving experience and Segway Polo.
Following the trophy presentations, our first ever GWR Polo on the BeachParty rounded off the day in style. The sell-out evening event showcased electrifying performances from beatbox masters Duke, followed by a headline DJ session from Superfoxx and Hedkandi resident Krystal Roxx.
Philip Edgerton, from Great Western Railway, said: “It’s certainly been a weekend to remember, at one of the busiest Polo on the Beach events ever. The atmosphere here has been amazing and as headline sponsor it was great to see the crowds enjoying not just the polo matches, but all the family entertainment on offer. ! “This is an incredible local event and does a great job of bringing the beauty of Watergate Bay to a wider audience.”
